Let me tell you, eInk was really cool, and it even made it into a product (Kindle) before it became obsolete. But the time has come for eInk to pass on the torch of coolest display technology to another company with an even better idea.
Qualcomm’s mirasol display using IMOD technology keeps eInk’s energy efficiency and outdoor usability, while adding color! Like the wings of a butterfly it reflects or cancels certain wavelengths of light using light-wave interference.
Of equal importance to me is the Bi-polar stability of these cells. What does that mean? It can be used as memory. Light readable memory at that. It would have to be shrunk considerably to be useful, but it is a step in the right direction. Shrinking happens all the time. The possibility of light readable memory is quite exciting because it has the potential of being much faster.
