Picture of the Day: Hard Water

Where we live we have a very special type of water called hard water. It is loaded with minerals, and minerals are good for you, right? Well, maybe. But, we filter our water.

The terms hard and soft water used to confuse me because water never feels hard or soft, just wet. I have figured it out since.

Though, it is interesting because hard, strong, abrasive, etc. are not words we normally associate with water, and yet, water really is stronger than rock and over time the water will wear down the rock. Water can even move cliffs, cut huge canyons, cause earthquakes, and even bring down huge buildings.

I am having a WILF moment here. I think I want to become more like water, patiently taking on projects and making a lasting impact rather that having an immediate impact like a rock thrown into a still pond. Sure the rock makes a big splash, makes some waves, and pierces deep into the heart of the matter, but a few minutes later it is forgotten and the water has returned to the same state it was before.

  1. Nice picture and words. I rarely read these terms, hard water, soft water or anything attached to water. I read about heavy water though. It contains one extra item of oxygen as compared to normal water so it is h2o2 instead of h2o.

  2. Good post. You made me think of Newfoundland, Canada. Newfoundland is also known the “the rock” due to it’s rocky terrain. If you ever drive accross Newfoundland you will see huge boulders dispersed accross the landscpae. They look as if someone just dropped them there and forgot about them. Well apparently that is exactly what a glacier did thousands of years ago. A giant powerful mass of frozen water.

  3. There is an old Chinese saying that people were invented by water to get from one place to another.
