Let’s start this week with a guest chat. Have you noticed the chat box in the side bar? It is a quick and easy way to get in touch. I rarely publish these chats but this one had some general purpose info in it and so here is a portion of a recent conversation.

Guest:  Do you generate any income from your twittering, and blogging, and the like?
Sent at 10:47 AM on Thursday
me:  not directly, but it leads to other business, kinda like going to business conferences, chamber of commerce meetings ect.
Guest:  ah..ok
Just was wondering
Also, another question.  Have you ever looked into the area of “speed reading?”
me:  yes
it works great for anything that is just information. If you need to know the source later it may not do so well
or if you need to respond to it.
Sent at 10:52 AM on Thursday
me:  but for swallowing a ton of info as is and making part of your personal knowledge base it is great.
Guest:  which programs have you used, and how fast has it been able to help you to read?
Sent at 10:54 AM on Thursday
me:  I do not remember the source :)
Sent at 10:56 AM on Thursday
me:  I have not done specific measurements but I go about three times as fast when speed reading.
And actually get it better
I just cant remember the next day where I read it.
or that I read it
I just remember that “it” happened
Sent at 10:59 AM on Thursday
Guest:  and the knowledge is in your mind
me:  yep
it is great for anything you are trying to memorize too.
gives your brain a framework to build on as it tries to put together each word in the right order
Guest:  There is a program that I really want to try, but, it’s got a bit of expense to it, and also, may have a “new age” slant to it.  I just emailed the company to ask about it.
me:  there are usually several books in the library, that is what I did.
usually huge books
that teach you the concepts then give you plenty of practice

Guest:  good deal

Have you ever had trouble getting line breaks in your post, or in a comment field, or have you tried to put several breaks in a row? I have used a page of breaks to separate a question from an answer. There are several ways to do this – some better than others. The first one works well for making sure that a caption lands under a picture. You can use either <br clear=”left” /> or <br class=”clear” />. The second method helps when your html editor gets a little too helpful and removes multiple <br> in a row. If this is the case try putting a &nbsp between each <br>.

And now a twitter summary: (if I can get it to work).

Doug Haslam DougH reading Sunday NYT: two references to twitter so far. Lurching towards mainstream?
Brian Sawyer briansawyer With tuppence for paper and string, you can have your own set of wings…

Christopher Penn cspenn Ouch. IndyMac’s failure will cost FDIC 10% of its insurance fund. How many big failures before FDIC is in trouble? http://tinyurl.com/57ghbq
Michelle Riggen-Rans mriggen OH: (To toilet-mastering preschooler, who’s been having, ah, “issues”) Remember, you control the poop. The poop does not control you.

Luke Gedeon lgedeon @amaaanda twhirl has room for improvement but it is still my favorite for now. 2nd favorite, FriendFeed, but it definitly needs an upgrade.
Luke Gedeon lgedeon @jakemarsh yeah but if you pull that stunt too often you won’t have a lap to put it on.
