I just watched a new video by Michael Wesch, the guy who did the famous “The Machine is Us/ing Us” video last year. In this video he talks about about all that he learned from this experience and from his years (yes years) of researching YouTube. You can see both videos below.
It got me thinking again about doing a video. There are a few things to consider though.
First, is anyone really willing to watch a video? You can’t just skim over a video like you do with most of my posts. I really am curious how many would watch it and how many would skip entirely? Personal I find video as a format a bit obnoxious because you can’t skim and you can’t even do something else at the same time. I might lose quite a few readers on a video day. Then again I might pick up a few. I tend to be quite unusual on most things. What say ye?
Second, I do not like the sound of my voice through any electronic device. Maybe I do not like the sound of my voice at all and just realize it more when I am not actively trying to think about what I am saying. But there are plenty of other options available. I like the text and images combined with music format, but I do not what to use copyrighted music without permission. I do not agree with copyright law, but will live by it until we can change it. Luckily there is CC music out there. Maybe some of it is usable.
So here are the questions please use the comment section to reply.
- What format(s) do you like best?
- How long is long enough? Too long?
- Does it have to be funny?
- If not, what else would make it interesting to you?
- How many can I do per month without running you off, or boring you to tears?
Here are the videos. The first is a must see. The second is long but worth the watch if you are thinking about doing video yourself.
